Lithuania Unveils New Tourism Approach: 'Come In, But Leave Immediately'

While Liepāja shows visitors the Karosta basement chambers, Lithuanian border guards offer express excursions to Belarus and back.
Lithuania has unveiled a revolutionary tourism concept that surpasses even Liepāja's most famous attractions. While our Karosta with its mythical basement chambers at least allows visitors to stay and explore the secrets of the former Tsar's naval base, Lithuanians offer a much more dynamic experience — 'Come in and leave immediately!'
This year alone, border guards have demonstrated this new service 186 times, which is far more efficient than any Riga tourism agency. As local expert Jānis Liepiņš said: 'Lithuania has discovered that the best way to show a country's beauty is to let people see it only for a moment, then they're left wanting to return.'
Since 2021, Lithuanians have perfected this method, achieving impressive results of 24,000 'express visits.' That's more than all Liepāja museum visitors combined, with the only difference being that guests are served much faster.
The Belarusian regime, meanwhile, operates like a true tour operator, organizing a steady flow of clients. While Riga is still trying to figure out how to attract more foreign visitors, Belarus has already developed into a living billboard reading 'Go to Lithuania!' Though the result isn't quite what they expected.
