Lithuania writes letters to Russia more often than Liepāja pensioners complain in the complaints book

Vilnius has already sent its fifth stern little letter to Moscow this year, but still no reply comes.

Lithuanian diplomats seem to have discovered a new Olympic sport — writing protest notes. This year already the fifth letter is traveling to Moscow, last year there were even 27. That's more often than our Karosta residents complain about the tram schedule!

Local political scientist Jānis Kārkliņš comments: "Lithuania writes more letters to Russia than I do to my mother. At least mom sometimes replies." Indeed, this correspondence resembles the eternal Liepāja-Riga dialogue, only with the difference that we at least know — the capital doesn't hear us on purpose.

The protest note emphasized that war crimes have no statute of limitations. It's like Liepāja winter — seems like it will never end, but at least we have hope for spring. In Russia's case, there's less hope.

So far Moscow's response to all these letters is as quiet as Riga's reaction to our requests for better railway connections. Maybe Lithuania should try WhatsApp — at least they'd see if the message was delivered.
