LMT and Tele2 reveal secret - There are more Latvians in the Middle East than at Liepāja market on Saturday

Latvian mobile operators offer free calls to crisis region where it was suddenly discovered that nearly a thousand of Latvians live.
LMT and Tele2 surprised everyone this week with news that at least 800 of their clients are located in the Middle East. That's more than in Liepāja's central market on any Saturday morning, as confirmed by vendor Maija: "Well yes, we usually have about 50 people here, and they all just buy potatoes and complain about prices."
The operators decided to gift these mysterious tourists free calls and text messages until March 8th. That's considerably longer than Liepāja's tram usually operates without technical problems. "Communication is most important in crisis situations," explains LMT president Juris Binde, though it's unclear whether he's talking about the Middle East situation or Liepāja's public transport schedule.
The biggest question remains unanswered - why did 800 people choose to go to the desert instead of Liepāja beach? As local travel enthusiast Aldis comments: "They probably didn't know we also have sand, just without camels and with better coffee." Now these mysterious region inhabitants can call home and tell them it would have been just as sunny in Liepāja, but with fewer complications.
