LPV reveals: Too many people in Latvia have two passports — proposes keeping only one

While Riga is still trying to figure out why one pocket doesn't have room for two passports, LPV has decided to solve the dual citizenship problem with a radical method.

LPV deputies have discovered a new problem for Latvia's security — people with two passports could be twice as dangerous as those with one. Therefore, they've decided to submit amendments to nine laws that would prohibit dual citizens from holding important positions.

"We couldn't allow someone with two passports to read confidential information twice as fast," explains one of the initiative's authors, who himself, of course, has a clear conscience and only one citizenship since birth.

Former high officials like Kariņš and Kažociņš seem particularly dangerous, as they were once able to think simultaneously in both Latvian and English. "That's like Karosta — there are also many secret basements there where you can hide with your second passport," comments one Riga politician who has never been to Liepāja.

While Riga is still pondering whether two passports need two pockets, Liepāja has long known — if someone has dual citizenship, they can probably also carry two shopping bags from the store with one hand. And that's already too much power for one person.

Now we just have to wait for someone to propose also banning dual citizens from shopping with loyalty cards — because double loyalty programs are surely too risky for national security.
