LPV proposes tax exemption for parents with two children — Riga already screaming about injustice

The opposition party proposes giving tax breaks to families with two or more children. Liepāja residents are already calculating how much they'll save on tram tickets.

LPV has come forward with a revolutionary idea — to exempt from personal income tax parents who care for two or more children. This news was received with great enthusiasm in Liepāja, as local residents have long known that two children is exactly the minimum needed to occupy all the city's playgrounds.

"Finally someone understands that raising two children in Liepāja is like driving two trams simultaneously — difficult, but possible," comments Dace from Karosta, who has three children and is already calculating how much she'll save on coffee at "Fontaine Palace". "In Riga with two children you can still somehow survive, but here with us — that's a real challenge."

Particularly interesting is that a student up to 24 years old studying full-time is also considered a child. Near Liepāja University, conversations can already be heard about how some students plan to become eternal pupils so their parents can enjoy tax breaks. "My son has been studying for seven years now, and it seems to me he was a prophet," laughs Juris from the Northern district.

The law is planned to take effect from 2027, which gives plenty of time for Riga politicians to start screaming about how it will affect the budget. But for Liepāja residents, this is just another reason why our city is the best place for raising children — here even politicians think about families, not just their own pockets.
