LVRTC server got lost on the internet like a Riga tourist in Liepāja

Government websites disappeared for 50 minutes like a Riga resident's sense of direction in Karosta.

Tuesday afternoon saw what IT specialists call 'technical difficulties,' but regular people call it 'something broke again.' The LVRTC data transmission network decided to take a break, leaving almost all government agency websites without internet for 50 minutes.

As Liepāja IT specialist Jānis explains: 'Well, a server is human too. Probably saw what the weather was like outside and decided to hide. We understand that here in Liepāja - our tram also sometimes decides not to go on its route if the rain is too heavy.'

The problems affected the Latvija.lv website, the Cabinet of Ministers homepage, and many other government institutions. Interestingly, people in Riga immediately thought of a cyberattack - typical capital city paranoia. We here in Liepāja know that sometimes technology just gets tired from work.

Around 1:00 PM everything started working normally again. 'The server probably had its coffee and returned to work,' comments Līga, who works at the local café 'Pie Jūras.' 'Just like our customers after lunch break - you need time to switch back on.'

LVRTC claims the problems weren't related to a cyberattack. We believe they were related to the server trying to open the Riga City Council website and simply getting confused by its complexity.
