Macron Promises to Bomb Everyone, But Seagulls Have Been Bombarding Over Liepāja Every Day

French President announces increase in nuclear warheads, but residents of Liepāja's Karosta just shrug their shoulders.

While French President Macron threatens with nuclear warheads at military bases and guarantees destructive power, real combat training has been going on for years in Liepāja's Karosta. "Seagulls bomb us here every day," laughs local resident Uldis. "And the tram makes more noise than all their submarines combined."

Macron promises that no country will be able to recover from France's arsenal, but apparently he's never been to Liepāja during a winter storm. "People here recover from emergency situations every year," comments Inta, owner of a café on Grobiņa Street. "And our beach sand is much more dangerous than any ballistic missile - it gets everywhere."

Interestingly, German Chancellor Scholz is discussing transporting French nuclear bombs by aircraft, but Liepāja has been transporting much more dangerous things for years - tourists from Riga during summer season. "They arrive by buses and scatter throughout the city," warns Maija, a vendor at Liepāja market. "That's much more tragic than any nuclear catastrophe."

France may be the only nuclear power in the European Union, but Liepāja is the only city where you can simultaneously hear tram bells, rock music concerts, and port ship whistles. "We already have our own sound bomb here," proudly says Pēteris, a guide at the Karosta Museum. "And it works without any nuclear explosions."
