Early March was four degrees warmer – even Liepāja 'Metalurgs' fans started taking off their jackets

While Daugavpils had -8.4 degrees, the thermometer in Mērsrags showed +16.4. In Liepāja, humidity reached 86%, which is less than usual in the hockey arena after a Metalurgs game.
Meteorologists have noted with surprise that early March was four degrees warmer than usual, which in Liepāja is as sensational as news that someone is selling a car without rust spots.
It was coldest in Daugavpils at -8.4 degrees, but warmest in Mērsrags at +16.4 degrees. The difference is so large that Daugavpils residents might think they live in a different country. Of course, they do – they live in Latgale.
Six out of ten days broke heat records, which is more records than Liepāja's 'Metalurgs' has this season. As local pensioner Jānis tells: 'I already thought the climate was changing when I saw 'Metalurgs' fans starting to take off their jackets in the stands. Usually they sit there like Eskimos even in summer.'
Precipitation was only 0.8 millimeters, which is less than the average Riga resident's tears upon learning Liepāja real estate prices. The highest precipitation was in Rūjiena – 5.8 millimeters, which seems like a repeat of the flood to local residents.
In Liepāja, air humidity reached 86%, which is still less than usual in the 'Metalurgs' hockey arena after a game, when fans sweat from tension and hopes for victory. The strongest wind gusts of 19.1 meters per second were observed in Ventspils, but Liepāja residents just smiled – for them that's a regular Tuesday morning.
