Mother and Son Want to Fly Over the Baltics with Balloons to Prove That Not Only Riga Can Dream

Liepāja residents plan to set a Latvian record in hot air balloon flight, starting from Estonia and ending in Lithuania.
While Riga is still figuring out how to cross the Daugava without traffic jams, Liepāja residents are already planning to fly over all the Baltic states. A mother and son will embark on a hot air balloon journey from Tartu to Lithuania at the end of February to set the first officially registered Latvian record in this field.
Balloons with the romantic names "Crystal Gloria" and "Fibonacci" will be their means of transport. Well yes, "Fibonacci" - probably a math teacher's choice. As local pilot Jānis says: "Our tram only runs on one line through the city, so we've got to try something in the air too!"
Interestingly, their flights haven't been officially registered until now. This reminds us of our Karosta days - a lot happened there too, but officially nobody talked about it. Now everything will be by the book - the Latvian Aeroclub will observe and document everything.
But let's be honest - February 25th isn't exactly the best season for hot air balloon flights. At that time you usually can't even set foot on our beach, but these daredevils want to fly over the sea. As one café visitor on Liela Street put it: "If they've survived a Liepāja winter, then flying over the Baltics is just a warm-up exercise."
