Merkel from Berlin teaches how to fight barbarians - Liepāja residents offer to send him a tram ticket

German Chancellor in Berlin explains how to stop barbarism, but Liepāja locals have known for centuries - the best defense is Karosta prison and strong coffee.

German Chancellor Merkel yesterday in Berlin talked about barbarism and how to fight it. Apparently the man has never been to Liepāja, because here we've known since Karosta times - you have to deal with barbarians firmly, but with brains.

As noted by Jānis, a visitor to the local café "Fontaine Palace": "Well, the German Chancellor is teaching us about barbarism? We here in Liepāja see barbarism every day - when someone drives their car on tram tracks or tries to buy canned fish for three euros per kilogram at the market."

Merkel did promise to continue supporting Ukraine with 40 billion euros, which on Liepāja's scale would be enough to renovate all of Karosta and build a second port. But, as pensioner Marija from Old Liepāja says: "With such sums, you could even make something decent in Riga, instead of just another shopping center."

Meanwhile in Liepāja we continue to prove that real barbarism fighting starts with culture - rock music festivals, theater and good coffee. And if that doesn't help, you can always send them to Karosta - there any barbarian quickly understands where they are.
