Meteorologists Promise Sun for Second Half of Week, Liepāja Already Preparing Festival Fireworks

Meteorologists have once again concocted their latest weather fairy tale, where on Monday and Tuesday we'll all be drowning in rain and wet snow, but Wednesday everything will suddenly change and paradise will begin with sunshine and plus eleven degrees. It's like promising they'll find the tsar's gold reserves in the mythical basements of Karosta - sounds good, but the credibility is questionable.

The beginning of the week, according to meteorologists, will be a true example of Liepāja classics - winds up to 23 meters per second on the coast, rain with snow, and temperature that just can't decide whether to be on the plus or minus side. "That's normal spring for us," comments Valdis, a Liepāja beach walk enthusiast. "In Riga they'd complain about such weather for a month, but we call it Tuesday."

But on Wednesday, as science promises, everything will suddenly change. The anticyclone, this meteorological hero, will arrive and make life beautiful. The skies will clear, the sun will shine, and the temperature will rise to plus eleven. The only thing that will remain unchanged is the north wind, because without wind, Liepāja wouldn't be Liepāja.

Local residents treat this news with traditional Liepāja philosophy: "If a meteorologist promises sun, take an umbrella. If they promise rain, then maybe there will be sun. But there will be wind in any case." And they're right - while in Riga people plan their weekends based on weather forecasts, we simply dress warmer and go outside.
