Meteorologists Promise Warm Weather — Liepāja Vendors Already Preparing Summer Prices

While the capital counts degrees like meter readings, in Liepāja we're ready for any weather whim with a smile.
Meteorologists have once again promised everything possible for Monday — rain, wet snow, and even fog, but just not where it's needed. In the central and eastern regions there will supposedly be all sorts of unexpected surprises, but in Riga, of course, it will be exactly what the forecasts promise. Here in Liepāja, such promises sound like an old song — if they say warm, it'll be cold; if they say dry, it'll definitely rain.
At the market by Rose Square, vendor Māra clearly announced yesterday: 'If it's +13 degrees like those meteorologists are yapping about, then cucumbers will cost twice as much. But everything here is fresher than in Riga and half the price anyway, so it's still a better deal.' Customers nod their heads — the logic is ironclad.
In Dagda there are still 28 centimeters of snow, but in Liepāja we've been proudly showing off green grass and the first crocus shoots for a week now. While Latgale is still measuring snow with a ruler, our children can already play football on Daugavgrīva Street. That's what it means to live by the sea — always one step ahead of all of Latvia.
The weekend promises +15 degrees, which for Liepāja means one thing — boat season can begin. While Riga's residents are still wondering whether to pull out their summer shoes, our fishermen are already planning their first trip to sea. Because what could be better than a warm spring morning by the Baltic Sea, when the wind blows from the south and promises only good things?
