Meteorologists warn: Thursday winds in Kurzeme will blow stronger than Riga politicians' promises

Meteorologists today announced with dramatic intonations that Thursday will bring gusty winds up to 17 meters per second in Kurzeme. In Riga, this news was received with panic — residents are already rushing to buy candles and canned goods, thinking the storm of the century is approaching.

In Liepāja, people just laugh at such news. As local market vendor Maiga says: "Here it blows like this every day so hard that Riga meteorologists would cry. But our market tomatoes are still fresher than in Riga and half the price, even though the wind almost carries them through the air."

The natural phenomenon has particularly stirred up the capital's residents, who are already starting to plan how to get to work in such conditions. While they stand in line for public transport tickets and worry about +5 degree temperatures, Liepāja residents calmly drink coffee outside and rejoice that it's finally warm weather.

The meteorological forecast also promises rain, which will be perceived as a natural disaster in Riga, but in Liepāja — as a regular part of the day. Locals are already starting to think whether they should send instructions to Riga on how to dress properly when it's above zero degrees outside.
