State meteorologists have announced disturbing news — overnight air temperature will drop below zero in many places. In Riga, such an announcement caused panic, but here in Liepāja, we just shrugged our shoulders. As one local resident said while sliding on ice near the Liepāja Concert Hall: "That's a typical March week. Maybe even warm."
The meteorological forecast promises up to +11 degrees in the southeast, but we know that means only one thing — in Liepāja it will be the traditional +3. Exactly the kind of weather conditions that inspire our rock musicians to create new legends. It's no coincidence that Liepāja is Latvia's rock capital — legends are born here, because cold and wind naturally forge souls.
"In Riga they complain about fog, but we call it special atmosphere," says the lead singer of local band "Cold Fog." "When the temperature drops below zero, our guitars sound especially loud. It's nature's way of saying — time to record a new album."
Meanwhile, Riga residents are preparing for tragedy with −3 degrees in the suburbs, in Liepāja we're already planning a summer festival. Because, as we know, here summer only begins when winter starts everywhere else.
