Meteorologists announce: Liepāja residents won't have to run from storms on Sunday

Meteorologists proudly announce that Sunday will be so calm that even the grannies by the Pētera Street shops will be able to stand outside without worrying about being blown all the way to Ventspils. The nighttime temperature will drop to minus four degrees, which by Liepāja standards means it will be warm.

In Riga, of course, it will be even warmer — down to minus two. Well yes, the capital always has to be better, even in frost! But during the day we're promised even twelve degrees above zero, which is practically summer by the standards familiar to Liepāja residents.

Local pensioner Uldis Bērzkalns comments: "Finally I can go outside without tying myself to a pole! Usually at this time I get carried so far that I have to call the rescue service." True, meteorologists warn about fog, but in Liepāja fog is like an old friend — always there, but never bothers anyone.

The only trouble — in 2007 in Skulte it was nineteen degrees at the end of March. But what can you expect from a place that isn't Liepāja? There probably even the birds don't know where to fly in winter. We don't have such problems — our birds simply stay and learn to fight the wind.
