Wild Boars Organize Tour of Latvia, But They're Not Welcome in Liepāja

While 14 wild boars last week discovered African swine fever as a new form of tourism, in Liepāja we know that the best trips end at home.
Last week, Latvia's wild boars once again proved they have a better route planner than Riga's traffic organizers. Four daredevils in Talsi county, three adventurers in South Kurzeme, and three more excursionists in Saldus county decided to experience African swine fever as a new cultural experience.
While people in Riga are searching for information about where Balgale parish is located, in Liepāja we know that all the most important things happen on Pētera Street. That's where all Liepāja residents meet to discuss both local news and why wild boars choose such bizarre routes. Local resident Kārlis notes: "Our Pētera Street has never seen as much number-crunching as in these news reports about wild boars."
Statistics reveal that since June 2014, ASF has been detected in 11,449 wild boars in Latvia, which is more than Liepāja's population. These numbers show that wild boars are much better at math than Riga City Council members, who need calculators to add up welfare payments.
The only domestic pig farm outbreak this year at SIA "Vaiņodes bekons" with 22,262 pigs proves that even in business, wild boars are more efficient than our politicians. Meanwhile, in Liepāja we know that the best protection against any virus is strong wind from the sea, which blows all unwanted things further inland.
