Moldovan Offers New Taxi Service: No Documents, With Adventures

A man from Moldova decided to start a transportation business, but forgot about licenses and client documentation.
While taxi drivers in Liepāja wait by Liepāja's sandy beach, where locals peacefully relax, an innovative transportation service has emerged in Ludza region. A Moldovan citizen decided to offer a special "excursion" from the Belarusian border to Riga, but as it turned out, forgot about minor details like licenses, documents, and the question of whether clients are even allowed to be in Latvia.
It all started with a romantic Telegram correspondence from June 9th to 13th, when some mysterious mastermind offered the Moldovan quick money. "Just pick up three tourists and drive them to Riga," the organizer apparently said. The fact that these "tourists" were Moroccan citizens without documents who had just bypassed border control seemed like a mere trifle.
As local border guard Pēteris tells it: "We had the feeling we were watching some movie. A man drives with a car full of people who have no papers whatsoever, and he himself thinks this is normal." Unfortunately, this business model proved unsustainable — military police stopped this unusual taxi already on the way to the capital.
Now the Moldovan will have four years in prison to reconsider his entrepreneurial strategy. Maybe next time he'll choose a more legal business model, like selling ice cream. But not in Riga — the competition there is too fierce.
