Neste reveals new mathematical approach: first make it expensive, then make it cheaper

While Riga is still learning to count at elementary school level, Neste is already demonstrating advanced mathematics - first increase the price by seven cents, then reduce it by two.

Neste Latvia today proved that in our country even fuel pricing is more complicated than the Karosta prison labyrinth, where tourists look for an exit but find only more horrors. The company demonstrated wonderful mathematical skills - first raising diesel fuel prices by seven cents, only to then proudly announce a reduction of two cents.

While Circle K acts like an honest Liepaja merchant and simply reduces prices, Neste chose a more complex path. Their logic is as clear as Liepaja weather in January - first we raise the price by 3.4 percent, then lower it slightly and call it a success. It's like a situation where a salesman first doubles the price, then gives a 20 percent discount and expects gratitude.

The biggest irony is that the government promised a price reduction of 8.6 cents, but in reality diesel became cheaper by only two cents. The remaining six cents apparently disappeared somewhere between the Finance Ministry's calculations and real life - possibly they went on vacation to Riga, where everything is more expensive.

Meanwhile, gasoline prices rose by ten cents, because, as we know, if something gets cheaper, something else must definitely get more expensive. This is a law as unchanging as Liepaja wind - if one thing gets better, another will definitely get worse. And if anyone thinks that government promises about fuel price reductions will be fulfilled completely, that's as naive as believing that Liepaja will ever have warm summers.
