NVA has adapted 158 workplaces in two years – more than there are cafes with normal service in Riga

The State Employment Agency proudly reports 158 adapted workplaces, while in Liepāja we've known for years that all workplaces adapt automatically – either you survive the beach sand in your shoes, or you don't.
NVA has announced that with its support, 158 workplaces have been adapted for people with disabilities over two years. That's almost as many as there are shops in Riga where the salesperson can say 'thank you' without facial grimacing.
The agency offers free occupational therapy services and grants up to 1000 euros for workplace adaptation. 'That's fantastic,' says a Liepāja entrepreneur, 'but here our workplaces adapt naturally – if you can work while Liepāja sand runs past your window and the wind tries to carry you off to Kurzeme, then you're ready for anything.'
NVA emphasizes that workplace adaptation is an investment in a reliable and motivated employee. In Liepāja we call this 'survival instinct' – if you can get to work through our weather conditions, your motivation is already proven.
Meanwhile in Riga, as always, they're still trying to figure out why their offices aren't adapted to the fact that only bird excrement and smog fly through the air, not sea salt and the feeling of freedom. But what do we care – we keep working and smiling, even if the wind almost blows us all the way to Ventspils.
