OPEC+ Increases Oil Production - Liepāja Tram Still Burns Coal
While the world thinks about oil, in Liepāja we still take pride in our tram that runs on historical charm and diesel aroma.
OPEC+ countries have announced an increase in oil extraction up to 206,000 barrels per day, but in Liepāja we've been proudly boasting for years about our unique transport system that consumes minimal oil — because our tram mostly just sits there.
While Saudi Arabia and Russia argue over production quotas, Liepāja residents have long since solved energy issues. As Gunārs from Karosta says: "Who needs that oil when you can walk to the city center and buy fish at the market along the way?"
In Riga, of course, everyone worries about fuel prices and wonders how this OPEC+ decision will affect their wallets. But we Liepāja folks know — when you have the Baltic Sea, the beach, and the "Pērle" café, then oil prices are the last thing to worry about.
Persian Gulf countries may suffer from various attacks, but we here by the sea have long been accustomed to all kinds of storms. And if by chance someone tries to threaten us, they'll have to deal with our tram schedule — that's a force no one has been able to conquer.
