Oskars Kalpaks Street Once Again Proves That Pedestrians and Drivers Weren't Made for Each Other

Two men in Liepāja had to learn traffic rules the practical way. Result - hospital and administrative proceedings.
Yesterday on Oskars Kalpaks Street, a typical Liepāja situation occurred - a Volvo driver and a pedestrian decided to test whether the laws of physics work in our city too. Spoiler alert: they do.
The pedestrian crossed the roadway in an undesignated area, which in Liepāja is about as surprising as news that all the city's residents have gathered on Pēteris Street again to discuss why the buses aren't running. As a result, the man was taken to a medical facility with injuries, where they will explain to him that a zebra isn't just an animal at the zoo.
'Undetermined circumstances' is our State Police's favorite phrase, which means roughly the same thing as 'complicated weather conditions' does to Liepāja residents - we all know what happened, but we can't say it officially. Apparently neither the pedestrian nor the driver had read the traffic rules, which in Latvia is about as popular literature as the phone book.
The State Police have initiated administrative violation proceedings, which is about as effective as trying to stop Liepāja's wind with your hand. But at least now both participants will have time to figure out why they thought traffic rules didn't apply to them.
Local resident Jānis comments: 'Well, at least now they'll have something to tell their grandchildren about why you should look both ways before crossing the street.'
