Padure's Culinary Diva with Secret Poet's Soul Surprises Everyone: 'I Feel Like a Real Chef!'

22-year-old Dace not only peels carrots like a professional, but also writes poetry like a true Liepāja rock music muse.
While poets in Riga sit in cafes pondering existential problems, a real poetry talent reserve has been discovered in Liepāja region. Padure student Dace has proven she can both peel carrots and pour her heart into poetry. "Poetry is my dream, my essence," says the 22-year-old culinary arts specialist, who writes a whole notebook of poems alongside studying food services.
As the local cultural worker admits: "We already knew there was something special on our side. In Riga they search for talents in theaters, but ours grow right in kitchens!" Dace is undeniably a universal talent — first she was the only girl among boys in the construction program and passed her exam with a nine, now she's mastering culinary arts and writing poetry on top of it.
Working as an intern at the social care center, Dace not only cuts products and cleans tables, but also learns people's life stories, which inspire her creative soul. "If they hurt, then I can hurt too," admits the aspiring chef and poet. Such empathy definitely helps in making both good soup and good poems.
Locals predict that soon Padure region could become the next Liepāja cultural center. "We already have trams, Karosta, rock music — now also a poet-chef. What else does Riga need to understand where the real culture is?" asks the local cafe owner, who is already planning to offer Dace a job after she finishes her studies.
