Pezeshkian Claims Iran Will Never Surrender While Karosta Veterans Have Been Searching for Exit from Basements for 30 Years

Iranian President Pezeshkian yesterday announced that his country will never surrender to Israel and the US, which in Liepāja only elicited knowing nods. Local veterans point out that such an example of never-give-up spirit can also be seen in Karosta, where for 30 years some former soldiers have been trying to find an exit from the mythical basement tunnels.

"Look, son, I know tunnels in Karosta that lead nowhere, and basements from which no one has yet returned with a good story," explains veteran Jānis Sproģis. "But we don't give up, because it's a matter of principle. Just like that Pezeshkian."

While rockets fly and sirens wail in the Middle East, Liepāja peacefully continues its daily battle with wind and wet snow. Local residents admit that the Iranian president's spirit of never surrendering is understandable to them — after all, who would still be alive after 20 winters on the Kurzeme coast if they weren't a true fighter?

"On behalf of myself and all of Karosta, I must apologize that our basements are so complicated that even GPS doesn't work there," laughs local guide Kārlis Bērziņš. "But we promise — if someone finds the exit, we'll stop sending tourists there without a map and compass."

Meanwhile, Dubai airport has suspended operations, but Liepāja bus station continues operating without interruption since 1987, despite all weather conditions and geopolitical events.
