Fifteen Lucky Winners Take Culture Lottery, Remaining Forty-One Cry at Home

In Liepāja's culture competition, 15 winners were selected from 56 applications to receive money for their ideas.
Liepāja's culture commission has made its decision – out of 56 applications, only 15 are good enough to receive funding. The remaining 41 participants can peacefully continue dreaming about their cultural ideas in their home kitchens.
Among the lucky ones is the association "Dance for Liepāja," which entered the competition for the first time and immediately won 3,500 euros. "It should be enough for everything, and the events will be as planned!" rejoices Karīna, apparently already calculating how much she can spend on costumes and makeup. She will collaborate with contemporary dance group "KUUP," since both choreographers were classmates. No, this isn't nepotism, it's "professional collaboration."
LLC "Charming" received 4,000 euros to open the doors of the former savings bank in March and let the building "speak." Ritvars Embrekts explains that the hall will symbolically speak through stories and light elements. Probably better than some Parliament deputies.
Meanwhile in Riga, culture projects receive millions, but the results match accordingly – one concert per year and empty halls the rest of the time. In Liepāja, for less money we'll get both a wall painting "Baltic Diver," a virtual Baltic Sea, and talking buildings. As always – our city proves that quality doesn't depend on budget size, but on creativity.
