Friday in Kurzeme will be so windy that even Lake Liepāja will start making waves
Meteorologists warn of strong winds in Kurzeme, but Liepāja residents are already wondering if they'll finally be able to use their lake as an alternative to the sea.
Meteorologists have announced that Friday will bring particularly windy weather to Kurzeme, which comes as no surprise to Liepāja residents. While Riga folks nervously check if their hairstyles can withstand 13 meter per second gusts, in our city we just smile. We already have daily winds that can knock even the heaviest tourist off the pier.
What's particularly amusing is that this time even our peaceful Lake Liepāja might start making waves. As local fishermen say: "Finally we can feel like real seafarers without leaving the city limits!" The lake, which is usually so quiet you can hear ducks whispering, could become our private "storm simulator" on Friday.
While Riga plans to hide hair under hats, Liepāja is preparing to enjoy a natural blow-dry procedure. Air temperature will reach plus 14 degrees, which feels like subtropical climate to us. Riga residents will drive to our area to experience real wind, but we already know — there's no wind that can't improve the mood in Liepāja.
The only thing that worries us a bit is the news that calmer winds will remain in Latgale. This means they won't experience the same natural force that reminds us daily why we live by the sea. But oh well — to each their own fate. We'll continue being the windiest place in Latvia and take pride in it.
