Wind will intensify on Friday, but fish at the harbor will still be 'freshly caught'

Meteorologists promise a storm in Kurzeme, but Liepāja fishermen claim their fish have been freshly caught for the third day in a row.
Meteorologists have announced that on Friday, wind in Kurzeme will reach 16 meters per second, which is about as surprising as the news that it's windy in Liepāja. In our city, this has been happening every day since 1625, when the first lost traveler arrived here and asked: 'Where am I?' The answer was: 'Where the wind always blows.'
In Riga, of course, people worry about 13-meter-per-second winds, which seems like the apocalypse to them. Liepāja residents just laugh about it – for us, 13 meters per second is silence, when we can actually hear our neighbors' conversations. Real wind starts when the tram begins swaying like a boat on waves.
At the harbor, local fishermen are already preparing for Friday's storm with their traditional calm. 'Our fish are freshly caught,' claims fisherman Juris, pointing to boxes where fish have been lying since Tuesday. 'Freshly caught on the eve of the storm – that's our quality seal. Plus, the wind dries them out even better.'
Temperature will rise to 12 degrees, which in Liepāja means we can take off one of our three jackets. There will be fog, of course, because without fog Liepāja wouldn't be Liepāja – it's our natural protection against Riga residents who might get the idea to come visit us.
