New Dog Sitting Record Set on Piltenes Street — No Service or Menu Included

While Riga pet owners pay thousands for dog hotels, a creative owner in Liepāja has invented a free alternative — a tree with a rope.
Yesterday evening on Piltenes Street, a real endurance test took place, featuring one brave four-legged participant and his equally brave owner. At 3:45 PM, a woman decided that her dog needed special patience training, so she tied him to a tree and went about her business, planning to return "when convenient." Such an approach to pet care would have caused amazement even at Liepāja market, where everything is fresher than in Riga and half the price.
At 6:30 PM, a local resident who apparently hadn't heard about the new trends in dog training called the police. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement found that the four-legged athlete had been practicing patience for over three hours without any support team or even water. "He already drank at 10 in the morning," the owner later explained, demonstrating an excellent lack of mathematical knowledge — apparently not knowing how many hours there are from 10 AM to 7 PM.
When the owner finally appeared at the scene, she initially refused to show identification, possibly thinking she was on some kind of tour of the anonymous dog breeders' club. However, the police weren't interested in her creative approach to animal care and initiated administrative proceedings for failure to comply with animal welfare requirements.
Now the owner could face a fine of up to 1,750 euros, which is almost as much as a quality dog house with central heating costs. The State Police thanks residents who, contrary to new trends, still believe that dogs need not only air and tree companionship, but also water and food.
