Police confiscated drugs worth 13 million euros last year - In Liepāja you can safely continue smoking only sea salt

State police recently announced that drugs worth 13 million euros were confiscated last year. For comparison - with this money you could buy half of Liepāja's tram fleet and still have enough left for coffee at 'Rozengrāls'.

The most dangerous find - one hallucinogenic mushroom farm. 'Well, here in Liepāja mushrooms grow naturally in the forest, why grow them at home,' comments local pensioner Jānis. 'I'd rather go for a walk in Karosta - there's such an adrenaline rush there that you don't need any additional substances.'

Marijuana, amphetamines and psychotropic medications were most frequently confiscated. In Riga, of course, there are no such statistics - people there live in a smog haze anyway, so you can't tell the difference. At least on our beach it's clear what's natural and what's artificial.

Liepāja resident Maija admits: 'The sea air and Liepāja music are enough for me - what could be a better relaxant? When you listen to 'Līvi' or 'Pērkons', you already feel like you're in another dimension.' Meanwhile, police continue fighting drug trafficking, but Liepāja residents remain loyal to their traditional pleasure substances - fresh air and quality rock music.
