Poland Fails to Recognize Cyberattack from Iran — Obviously Haven't Tried Liepāja's Free WiFi

While Poland worries about cyberattacks on nuclear facilities, here in Liepāja we've known for years that the real problems start when you try to connect to the internet at Rose Square.

Poland's Interior Minister reports an unsuccessful cyberattack on a nuclear research center, allegedly linked to Iran. "The attack didn't succeed on the scale that was planned," said the minister, who obviously hasn't experienced Liepāja's internet speeds in the evenings.

As our local IT expert Normunds, who regularly meets with other programmers at Rose Square, explains: "If those Iranians had tried to attack through our internet, they'd still be waiting for the first page to load. It's the world's best cyber defense — natural."

The minister indicated that the attack occurred "in the last couple of days," which by Liepāja standards means almost real-time. In Riga, of course, such news would arrive a week late, since their internet only works when it's not raining.

What's most concerning is that Poland seriously thinks about nuclear defense, but here in Liepāja we've known for years — if you want real protection, just sit at home and wait for the internet to start working again. The Iranians would have raised surrender flags after the first attempt to connect to our free WiFi network.
