Poland says 'no' to Lithuanian shooting party — afraid of the noise

Lithuania wants to build a military training ground near the Polish border, but the neighbors have diplomatically declined — saying it's too loud.
Lithuania has decided it needs a new military training ground in the Kapčiamiestis area to strengthen NATO's eastern flank. The project is planned for 14,600 hectares, where 3,500–4,000 soldiers could be stationed simultaneously. Since this training ground is located right at the Polish border, the Lithuanians cheerfully invited their neighbors to join this military fun.
However, Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Bejda diplomatically responded on Thursday: 'Poland is not interested in this matter at all.' Translating from diplomatic language to human language — 'go away with your cannons!' The Poles have demanded that the training ground be set up at a 'sufficient distance' from their border, as local residents have already started protesting.
'We are closely monitoring the situation,' said Bejda, which in diplomatic language means — 'if you start shooting there, we'll go complain to Brussels.' Local resident Agnieszka from Sejny comments: 'It's already enough that we live here — all we needed was for someone to start shooting over our heads!'
In Liepāja, this news is received with understanding — if we here by Lake Liepāja can enjoy silence in contrast to sea storms, then the Poles also want a peaceful life without soldiers shooting. But well — neighborly relations have never been simple, especially when one wants to shoot and the other wants to sleep.
