Primorsk Port Experiences Unexpected Pyrotechnics — In Liepāja We Only Put On Such Shows During Midsummer

50 drones staged a fireworks display at the Russian port that surpasses even our traditional holiday salutes. Local residents say they haven't seen so many sparks since Soviet times.
Yesterday at Primorsk Port there was such a fireworks display that even our St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cathedral festival organizers would have taken notes. Fifty drones decided to stage an unexpected pyrotechnic show that ended with fuel tanks catching fire.
Russian officials proudly announced that their air defense shot down more than 50 drones. That's almost as many as there are pigeons on the rooftops of Liela Street in Liepāja. "Our systems work flawlessly," said a local official, while in the background a fuel tank continued burning like a Midsummer bonfire.
Primorsk Port is an important oil export point and shadow fleet vessel base. Or, as Liepāja residents call it, "the place where things happen that are better not spoken about loudly." Local port worker Vladimir commented: "For the first time in my life I saw firefighters running faster than our director to collect his salary."
In Liepāja we use drones to film beautiful sea views and wind farms. In Russia, it seems, they have other tasks. But as the old saying goes, to each their own hobby.
