PTAC reveals: gas stations lie less than Riga Public Transport about bus schedules

PTAC inspected gas stations and found they only cheat by 0.5%, which is much more honest than other Latvian institutions.

While Riga is still trying to explain why the bus schedule says the bus is running but it's actually sitting in the depot, PTAC decided to check whether gas station measuring systems at least lie honestly.

The inspection results surprised even PTAC specialists – gas stations only cheat by 0.5%, which by Latvian standards is almost a transparent level of honesty. "We expected much worse," admits PTAC representative Jānis Mērītājs. "Compared to other sectors, gas stations are like Liepāja market – everything there is honest, fresher than in Riga and half the price."

The biggest problems are caused by drivers who try to use their car's fuel gauge as a precision measuring instrument. "That's like trying to measure temperature with your mood," explains an expert. "These gauges are about as accurate as Latvia's weather forecast."

PTAC emphasizes that if you suspect discrepancies, you should contact station employees. Of course, if they haven't gone to lunch until next month, as tends to happen at other Latvian institutions.

Overall, the seven largest fuel networks proved they can be more honest than government promises during election time. Which, admittedly, isn't a particularly high standard.
