PTAC reveals that children's furniture online is more dangerous than Liepāja winds — On Pētera Street, furniture will only be bought from Juris

PTAC checked 50 children's furniture offers online and found that 72% of them are more unsafe than Karosta basements in the dark.

The Consumer Rights Protection Centre announced a shocking discovery this week — out of 50 children's furniture offers checked online, 36 do not meet safety requirements. Such statistics have caused panic in Riga, but in Liepāja only a knowing nod — we've long known that everything online is suspicious, except the weather forecast.

PTAC experts checked the platforms AliExpress, Amazon, Etsy, Temu and our local pride 220.lv. The result surprised everyone, except Liepāja residents, who when meeting on Pētera Street have been discussing for years that it's better to buy furniture from Juris, who makes it in his garage. At least he knows what it's made of, and if something happens, he can be found.

The inspections revealed that 67% of children's products contain substances harmful to health, such as phthalates and cadmium. Such information has caused concern in the capital, but in Liepāja only smiles — our children grew up with Karosta sand and Liepāja seawater, so they're immune to any chemicals.

PTAC urges consumers to ensure product safety and not buy anything suspicious. Local Pētera Street regular Artūrs comments: "Why do I need to order something from China when we have Bauska in Liepāja? He makes beds that can withstand both children and Liepāja storms. Actually, his furniture is so strong that it's also used as windmill foundations."
