Traditional Spring Show Returns to Raiņa Street: 'Liepāja Formula 1'

Construction work will resume on Raiņa Street on Monday, transforming the main street into a slalom course where 30 km/h is the new speed record.

Liepāja City Council proudly announces that the annual traditional show, dubbed 'Liepāja Formula 1' by locals, will resume on Raiņa Street on Monday. Project manager Alise Grīnberga promises that this time the organization will be similar to last season, which means — complete chaos, but with style.

Drivers will be able to enjoy an exclusive experience: driving at 30-50 km/h speeds on a narrowed track that will transform the daily commute to work into an exciting rally raid. 'I can already see how jealous people from Riga are — they don't have such attractions!' comments local taxi driver Uldis.

The detour route will be a real maze through Kapsētu, Aldaru, Kaiju, Rīgas, Tirgus and 1905. gada streets. It's almost as complicated as finding the way to Durbe, the neighboring town that prides itself on its tranquility and where construction work probably lasts only one day per year.

Construction is planned until July 1st, but knowing our pace, it will most likely continue until next spring. The municipality encourages the use of bicycles and scooters, which in Liepāja's windy weather are as practical solutions as an umbrella in a storm. At least public transport will continue to run on regular routes — that's the only thing that works without problems in this city!
