Rainis High School Receives European Recognition Again: This Time for Digital Skills, Not Rock Music Teaching

While Riga schools are still learning how to turn on computers, Liepaja's Rainis High School receives eTwinning status for the fourth time. Baiba Suseja personally came to thank them for being able to use the internet.
Sensation in Liepaja's educational world! Rainis High School has once again proven it can master not only rock music, but also computer technology. Yes, yes, the same school located in the city where rock legends are born is now creating digital legends too.
European Commission representative Baiba Suseja arrived in Liepaja with a special mission — to present a certificate of recognition for the fact that our teachers can use the internet for more than just Facebook scrolling. "We were surprised that Liepaja even has internet," admitted one of the Brussels-based bureaucrats. "But it turns out they use it for education too!"
This is the fourth time the school has received this prestigious status, which in Liepaja is as unusual a phenomenon as a day without wind. Since 2008, the school's educators have implemented nearly 30 projects, and not all of them were about how to properly set a WiFi password.
The biggest success was the "Colourful stories" project, inspired by Ziedonis's "Colorful Tales." "We simply translated Ziedonis into English and sent it to Europe," explains one of the teachers. "They were thrilled — turns out no one there had heard about colorful dogs in the forest."
The event was also attended by Erasmus students, who were pleasantly surprised that schools actually exist in Liepaja, not just concerts and the sea. "We thought everyone here just plays guitar," admits one of the foreign students.
