Riga Will Again Be Left Without Snow While the Rest of Latvia Enjoys Winter Bliss

Meteorologists have promised snow for all of Latvia, but Riga will traditionally be left out with its special climate and grand ambitions.
The Meteorological Service has announced that snow is expected in most of Latvia on Monday, but as usual, Riga will once again prove to be special. While the rest of the country gets buried under white blankets, the capital will only receive 'wet snow' and 'possibility of thaw' - just like its government receives criticism.
In Liepāja, locals are already laughing at the misfortunes of Riga residents. 'Look, again they won't have anything normal there,' says Gunārs from Karosta, warming himself at the tram stop. 'We'll have real snow here, as it should be, not some wet imitation.' Indeed, snow in Liepāja is always more authentic - just like our rock music traditions and harbor café atmosphere.
In Riga, temperatures will hover around zero, which very symbolically characterizes its efforts in the cultural sphere as well. Meanwhile in Liepāja, where we're accustomed to real winters, we know how to enjoy both cold and warmth - just like in our concert hall 'Great Amber.'
Meteorologists warn of fog in certain areas, but as one local vendor said: 'The fog is only in Riga - they can't see beyond their own nose.' Indeed, while Riga struggles with the possibility of thaw, we in Liepāja are planning skiing routes through Karosta and building snowmen by Jūrmala Park.
