New Tourist Route Unveiled in Riga: Free Aircraft Concert Twice Daily

While Liepāja residents peacefully watch storms at the Northern Pier, Riga residents can now enjoy NATO aircraft sound shows twice a day.

Riga residents on Monday received twice the usual dose of military tourism — allied aircraft decided to offer a free acoustic performance both in the morning and afternoon. While Liepāja residents peacefully stroll along the Northern Pier watching storms turn the sea into foam, Riga residents can now enjoy brief but emotionally saturated aircraft concerts right overhead.

The National Armed Forces have previously explained that the noise created is temporary and causes no harm to people or property. Of course, no one has specified whether this also applies to cats who have suddenly decided to hide under beds, or grandmothers who now think the apocalypse has begun.

Local resident Jānis from Purvciems commented: "First we had birds, then helicopters, now these NATO aircraft. Soon our yard will be more popular than Liepāja Airport. But at least we don't have to pay for the air show."

It must be acknowledged that Riga residents have reason to be grateful — while in other countries people pay huge sums for such military performances, they receive it completely free and even without prior warning. This is true NATO solidarity in action.
