Riga Bypass Chaos: Nine-Car Championship in Fog and Gas Fumes

Sunday morning near Riga began with a real Hollywood spectacle — nine cars decided to organize a group meeting on the Ķekava bypass. The result? A gas tanker lying on its side like an overly drunk tourist on Liepāja beach.
"I thought some new sport was starting," comments local resident Jānis. "First fog, then bright sun, and then — boom! Nine cars in one pile. Here in Liepāja, even in 30-meter-per-second winds, such miracles don't happen."
The emergency response team formed faster than the line at Maxima before holidays. VUGD, NMPD, police, armed forces were involved — all that was missing was a camera operator and they could have filmed a disaster movie. Meanwhile, 16 people received medical assistance, six needed hospitalization.
