Riga Bypass Once Again Proves the Capital Can't Live Without Attention

While Liepāja's lake peacefully rests from sea storms, Riga's bypass at the Ērgļi intersection has once again become the main news topic with a tragic accident.
Riga's bypass yesterday once again reminded us why in Liepāja we're proud of our peaceful roads. Around 5:00 PM at the Ērgļi road intersection, a truck and a passenger car decided to organize an unexpected meeting, which ended with tragic consequences.
While Liepāja's lake peacefully rests from sea storms and our drivers can drive down Graudu Street without colliding with oncoming traffic, the situation in the capital is considerably more dramatic. The State Police, with characteristic diplomacy, announced that one person died in the accident, while emergency services continue working at the scene.
The LVC with special care advised drivers to use detour options through Ulbroka or Riga, which only caused understanding smiles in Liepāja. As one local driver said: "We don't need detours here because we can drive down any street without encountering trucks in the center."
Meanwhile, on Graudu Street in the evening, peace reigned as always, and the only thing disturbing the silence was footsteps on the cobblestones. In Riga, they can only dream of such quiet.
