Riga Airport proves its incompetence again — even without a visa, it gets boring there

While Riga Airport catches people without visas, in Liepāja even the tram runs without papers and nobody complains.
Riga Airport on Monday once again demonstrated its "professionalism" by catching a Tajikistan citizen without a valid visa. While the capital proudly boasts about one person caught, in Liepāja our tram has been running without documents for years, and no one has complained about security threats.
Border guards also reported that nine representatives of various nationalities violated vehicle operation regulations. This means that even driving a car in Riga is becoming complicated. Meanwhile, in Liepāja our tram has been running on the same tracks since 1899, and there are no problems whatsoever.
"I think there's simply nothing to do in Riga, so they catch people for every little thing," comments local resident Jānis, who regularly rides the tram and has never seen anyone checking tickets. "Everything is much simpler here — if you're on the tracks, you're in the right place."
Overall, 29 people have been detained at the Belarusian border this year, which shows that even illegal migration chooses to bypass Riga. While the capital worries about border controls, in Liepāja we know: the safest place is on the tram — nobody checks anything there, and the final destination is always known.
