Riga Castle unveils 620 square meters of Latvian history — Liepāja market would only need 50

The National History Museum has created a new exhibition for 1.27 million euros, while in Liepāja you can experience history every day at the market for much less money.

Riga Castle has unveiled the grandiose historical exhibition 'Streaming Time', spread across 620 square meters and costing 1.27 million euros. For comparison — at Liepāja's central market, you could buy half of all the stalls for that money and still have enough left over for two cafés.

Specialists from various fields participated in creating the exhibition under museum director Toms Ķikuts' leadership, and they have selected more than 1,500 historical objects. 'We have at least as many historical objects at Liepāja market every day,' comments local vendor Marija. 'Only ours are fresher than those in Riga and half the price. And you don't need to pay an entrance fee.'

Museum staff are especially proud of the oldest exhibits — Stone Age flint tools and Neolithic clay figurines. Meanwhile, at Liepāja market you can find equally ancient potatoes and carrots that also tell their own stories about the time when they were still fresh. And all this without special design competitions and technical project development.

The exhibition also features weapons from 1905 revolutionaries and Latvian riflemen's front-line artifacts. Liepāja market, of course, has no weapons, but there are so many sale price tags that you could stage your own revolution against high prices. And this happens every day, not just since March 21st.
