Riga drivers once again prove they can't do without attention

On Monday there were 130 traffic accidents in the country, 70 of which occurred in Riga. In Liepaja, the tram peacefully rides along its tracks and marvels at the capital's chaos.
The State Police yesterday published statistics that once again confirm: if you want a peaceful life, don't move to Riga. Of 130 traffic accidents, 70 occurred right in the capital region, which is almost like one accident per Riga neighborhood.
"This doesn't surprise us at all," comments Liepaja resident Jānis Kalniņš. "We peacefully drive along Peldu Street here, while our tram elegantly glides along the tracks without any accidents. Riga doesn't even have a tram anymore — it probably got scared of their traffic too."
It's also noteworthy that eight drivers were caught under the influence of alcohol, five of whom faced criminal charges. Three lucky ones got away with administrative liability, which raises questions in Liepaja: do they measure blood alcohol levels with different instruments in Riga?
"When we see news like this, we understand how lucky we are to live by the sea," says local tram driver Edgars. "It's hard for me to drive off the road on tracks, but Riga drivers seem to manage it effortlessly." In total, 517 administrative violations were registered, including 172 cases of speeding, which shows that everyone in the capital is in a hurry, but they all arrive everywhere later than the Liepaja tram.
