Riga Leaders Once Again Prove Their Superiority Even in Accidents

On Sunday, Latvia's roads transformed into a real adventure park, where five people were injured in 60 traffic accidents. And, as usual, Riga once again demonstrated its undisputable leadership — 36 accidents out of 60. Even in accidents, the capital cannot afford to be mediocre.
The rest of Latvia fought over the remaining crumbs: Zemgale with its nine accidents, Kurzeme with four, Vidzeme with three, and Latgale with eight. In Liepāja, of course, we look at such statistics with a smile — our drivers are too busy driving past St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cathedral and admiring its ornaments to get involved in such statistics.
"I keep saying — in Riga there's competition even in accidents," comments local taxi driver Kārlis. "There everyone tries to be first both at traffic lights and at the Road Traffic Safety Directorate protocol."
Of the injured, three were pedestrians, and one was riding a bicycle. The State Police made 725 administrative violation decisions, of which 349 were for speeding. Apparently someone was in a real hurry to get to Sunday service or simply wanted to make it to Liepāja before the wind died down.
