While in the capital students learn on mannequins that never complain about pain, in Liepāja there will be real patients with real diseases.
The study center will be located in the hospital's D building, which is as strategically placed as the Karosta canal — divides the city but creates drama, because students will be able to see real medicine, not just what they read in books. 986.9 square meters — that's an area that in Riga would cost more than Liepāja's entire budget.
Rector Pētersons promises work-based education, which is a revolutionary concept in Latvian universities. Local resident Jānis comments: 'Finally someone understood that medics should be taught where sick people are, not in auditoriums where everyone is healthy.'
