RSU choir wins in Italy: Riga residents finally admit that the best music comes from the Liepāja side

Riga Stradiņš University mixed choir triumphs in Italian competition, but the real secret lies in Latvian composers who draw inspiration from Latvia's windiest city.
The RSU mixed choir "Riga" has returned from Italy with so many awards that even the fish caught in Liepāja port would be proud of such a haul. The main prize, first place in the sacred music category and a gold diploma - this is the kind of fishing day that even our experienced fishermen can only dream of.
Particularly amusing is that the jury especially appreciated the "thoughtful program selection." It turns out the secret lies in Latvian composers - Laura Jēkabsone, Jēkabs Jančevskis and Ēriks Ešenvalds. "Their music helped forge the choir's success," says conductor Zilberte. Well of course it helped - these composers have breathed our Baltic Sea air, not Riga's smog.
Concert organization "Meeting Music" gathered ten choirs from seven countries, but the Riga residents had to admit that their winning formula consists not of the capital's prestige, but of Latvian composers who understand what a real wind song means. As one competition visitor said: "This choir sings as if each singer had stood on Liepāja beach and listened to the wind whispering among the dunes."
Now the RSU choir "Riga" will have to explain why they sing with a Liepāja heart but live in Riga's heart. Probably next time they'll have to put "Liepāja-inspired RSU choir" in the competition title.
