RTU seeks director for Liepāja Academy — 43 candidates compete for 6000 euros and chance to escape Riga

Forty-three people have applied to lead RTU Liepāja Academy. The competition runs in three rounds, but the main question remains — does any of them know where Liepāja is located.
RTU has announced that 43 candidates have applied for the director position at Liepāja Academy. That's more than usually show up to Riga City Council meetings, and definitely more than people who know that Liepāja isn't just a summer resort.
The competition runs in three rounds, which is one less than Olympic qualification, but two more than usually needed to get from Riga to Liepāja. In the first round, they most likely check if the candidate can find Liepāja on a map, in the second — whether they can survive the wind, and in the third they seriously evaluate whether the candidate understands what it means to live in a city without traffic jams.
The most attractive part of the offer isn't just the 6000 euro salary, but also housing and education for children. This means the family can peacefully stroll through Seaside Park among the ancient trees, enjoying the silence without Riga's noise, while daddy runs around the academy trying to figure out why students ask if lectures will be in-person or remote from the sea.
Currently, director duties are fulfilled by Armands Dejus, who possibly secretly hopes that none of the 43 candidates will find their way to Liepāja. The university promises to inform about results after all rounds are completed, which, considering Riga's pace, could be either next year or when they finally finish the Daugavgrīva bridge repairs.
