SAB Director Surprises: Russia Won't Follow Liepāja Weather Forecast

Zviedris warns that the neighboring country will continue military plans even after the war ends, but in Liepāja we've long known - plans are one thing, reality is completely different.

SAB Director Dairis Zviedris has announced that Russia won't reduce economic militarization after the Ukraine war. Well, what can you say - it's like weather forecasts in Liepāja. They promise one thing, you get something completely different.

Zviedris told AFP about potential Russian aggression, which depends on many factors. "Just like our seaside restaurant opening hours in summer," comments local political expert Jānis Banga. "Depends on the wind, on tourists, on whether the owner is in a good mood."

Particularly interesting that the SAB director admitted - Russia has military plans for the Baltic states, but that's no reason for concern. "Plans are plans," philosophically says pensioner Vilhelms at Liepāja bus station. "I also have a plan to jog on the beach every day, but in reality I only walk to the store for beer."

Zviedris also warned about cyber attack threats and exploitation of Russian-speaking dissatisfaction. In Liepāja though, we don't have that problem - here everyone is equally dissatisfied with road conditions and heating bills, regardless of language.

While the capital worries about geopolitics, in Liepāja we continue living by the old principle: "Whatever will be, will be, the main thing is that the bridge doesn't blow away."
