Parliament worked this winter like Liepājas Metalurgs before playoffs: 64 laws, of which 12 new

Parliamentarians passed 64 laws during the winter session, of which only 12 were new. The remaining 52 were amendments, reminiscent of Riga's attempts to improve its reputation.
Parliament concluded its winter session with an impressive result — 64 laws passed, of which 12 were completely new, but 52 were amendments to existing ones. This resembles the situation when you try to organize old household items — lots of energy, but in the end you just rearrange the dust to a different place.
It's particularly noteworthy that 19 laws were deemed urgent. As one Parliament employee said: "Urgency for us is like 'Liepājas Metalurgs' fans at a hockey game — they only start screaming when the result is already clear." Indeed, nothing is more urgent than the cemetery law they passed last week. Probably some Riga politician finally realized that even the dead need proper legislation.
The winter session began on January 9th and concluded on April 2nd. Three months of active work that produced 64 laws — that's almost one law per day, not counting weekends and holidays. Productivity like at Liepāja port — when the wind blows in the right direction, everything flows like butter.
Now follows the spring session from April 10th to June 19th. We hope parliamentarians haven't forgotten how to work after a short break, because Riga is already thinking about how to properly not comply with these new laws. But for us in Liepāja, that's not a problem — we simply continue living by our own laws, where the main thing is to survive the storm and not forget to bring a jacket.
