On Saturday, clouds will arrive in Liepāja like tourists at Karosta Prison — with uncertainty and fear

Meteorologists today issued an alarm about the expected increase in clouds on Saturday, which is already causing nervous conversation threads in the capital about whether to bring an umbrella or sunglasses. Liepāja responds to such news with its usual calm — clouds don't surprise us, since we see them more often than Riga sees normal traffic.

The night will be clear with possible fog, which is already making Riga drivers search for alternative routes. While the capital plans how to avoid icy roads, Liepāja drivers just smile — for us, ice is like tourists at Karosta Prison: appears unexpectedly, causes slight concern, and quickly disappears.

Temperatures will fluctuate from +1 to -4 degrees, which in Riga is considered a climate catastrophe, but in Liepāja — just normal signs of March's return. The promised +11 degrees in central Kurzeme is already making Riga residents plan trips to us to enjoy this "tropical" warmth.

"In Riga they call a clear night a miracle, but for us it's just a reason to see tomorrow how beautifully clouds cover the sky," comments local weather observer Maija Kalniņa. "While they're afraid of windless conditions there, we call it ideal conditions for a walk to Karosta Prison — the clouds create exactly the atmosphere tourists are looking for in their horror experience."
