Saturday Life Philosophers on the Roads: 17 Drivers Prove That Alcohol and Cars Aren't a Perfect Match

On Saturday, 17 drivers decided to experiment with life and proved that alcohol and steering wheels aren't as good a combination as Liepāja sand and sea breeze.

Saturday evening in Latvia once again proved that some people's logic works differently than others. Police caught 17 drivers who decided that alcohol is the best steering assistant, and 15 of them were so convinced of their choice that in 14 cases they even had their vehicles confiscated.

Most of these life philosophers were found in the Riga region, which again proves that in the capital not only are apartments more expensive, but experiments with alcohol behind the wheel are also more costly. While Riga residents experiment with chemistry, in Liepāja people prefer to drive to Liepāja beach, where they can peacefully contemplate life choices in the sand without risking their driver's license.

Two Vidzeme drivers decided that alcohol was too banal and chose narcotic substances instead. "Diversification is important," they probably thought while getting into their cars.

Simultaneously, a speeding championship was taking place, with 248 drivers participating. Latgale won this discipline with 85 participants, proving that there they not only can't think slowly, but also know how to drive fast. In total, police issued 630 protocols yesterday, which is almost as many times as a Liepāja resident checks daily whether the wind is still blowing from the sea.
